Navigating the 46th annual meeting of Society for Neuroscience (SfN)
As a first time attendee of the annual SfN meeting, I was pretty excited to meet, network with and learn from many of the neuroscience experts. One can only imagine the buzz of excitement in a crowd filled with over thirty thousand (30,000) scientists at the San Diego convention center. Along with the excitement came nervousness as I had never attended such a large meeting where I would come to learn that every presentation would be taken seriously. The presentations ranged from hundreds of posters to oral presentations and symposia. Dr DeCoster and I attended the meeting on the Monday (11-14) both presenting posters entitled “Synthesis and characterization of a novel copper-containing nano-biocomposite for potential drug delivery and imaging in brain” and “Use of multiple low threshold glutamate stimuli to monitor brain cell calcium dynamics in cultures with decreasing microglia and astrocyte content” respectively. The SfN 2016 app was ,and hopefully will continue to be a life saver as you are able to schedule the presentations you wish attend and your electronic device notifies you before the meeting begins. The app also allows you to look up specific individuals and find their presentation time and location. Overall, the meeting was a huge success with countless opportunities for networking and professional development. I look forward to attending the 47th annual meeting in 2017!
