Navigating the 47th Annual Meeting for Society for Neuroscience (2nd Year Attendee)
As a second year attendee and a Trainee Professional Development awardee , this year's meeting definitely exceeded my expectations. In addition to presenting my research at two poster symposiums, I was given the opportunity to attend some professional development workshops and a neuro-ethics short course. Once again, over 30,000 attendees, including, scientists, undergraduate and graduate students, high school students, business persons and other professionals could be found at the Convention Center. In preparation for the meeting, just the thought of absorbing the content of thousands of posters, symposiums, presentations can be overwhelming. One of the most helpful tools to simplify this seemingly grandiose problem is the Society for Neuroscience mobile app. You can develop a customized schedule which gives you the location and time of each event that you are interested in attending. The app separates the presentations by topics, session type (professional development sessions Vs research presentations), date or time. The scheduling function allows you to develop a tentative schedule for all the days at once on each day before you get to the convention center. One of the features that I found helpful was the notification sent to your phone approximately ten minutes before the session with the location and time. I would encourage anyone interested or currently studying any neuroscience topic to attend the annual Society for Neuroscience meeting. I look forward to attending for many years to come.
